Oil Executive Assassinated

Over the years working in the oil patch, I have had several opportunities to work in Nigeria. I have turned all of them down.

A Nigerian Story
A few years ago, some business associates and myself had an oil sale going on in Nigeria for crude oil (bonny light). Everything was in place, but they would not let the first tanker enter Nigerian waters due to red tape. It was at anchor for three weeks. Finally, the owners claimed Force Majure and pulled out of the charter. We cancelled all other charters after this and pulled the plug at that point.

We found out later that someone at NNPC (Nigerian National Petroleum Company) was not paid off, and he screwed everyone involved. It is tough getting crude out of Nigeria. NNPC is so damned corrupt at every level. All of us lost a hefty commission on this one.
